The code-named Ur-Quan Masters 2, Free Stars: Children of Infinity is currently being on Kickstarter and in active development. Free Stars is basically a direct sequel to the legendary Star Control and is made by Pistol Shrimp Games, founded by the same developers who brought us Star Control back in the yonder days or old.
While the Star Control intellectual property itself went through a lot of legal mumbo jumbo, eventually ending up at Stardock, Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters went open-source in 2002, and completely free for everyone to enjoy, thanks to the game’s creators.
Children of Infinity promises to bring back that same classic gameplay of commanding your Starship, gathering resources, exploring planets and meeting whacky aliens, while getting stronger to eventually face of the big baddie of the game. The project has already been backed, apart from some stretch goals, and we can probably expect the game to be beaming itself onto our HDDs/SDDs sooner rather than later.
