If you’re a fan of the gritty, choice-driven world of Black Geyser, you might want to sit down for this one. GrapeOcean Technologies just dropped some major news that has the CRPG community buzzing. They are heading back to the world of Yerengal with a brand-new title called Avaria: Iron Rule. This isn’t just a minor expansion; it’s a full-blown party-based, real-time-with-pause RPG that takes us twenty-five years before the events of Couriers of Darkness.
The game puts us right in the thick of things during the early, turbulent reign of King Velianrick. While the developers have promised a story that stands on its own, it’s clearly leaning into the deep lore they’ve already built. We’re looking at a narrative that tackles some pretty heavy themes like the grit of colonialism and the soul-crushing weight of moral choices. In true GrapeOcean fashion, it sounds like we won’t just be picking between “good” and “evil,” but rather navigating those messy gray areas where every decision actually leaves a mark on the world.
On the technical side, the team isn’t just resting on their laurels. They’ve heard the feedback from their previous journeys and are packing this prequel with quality-of-life upgrades. We’re talking about a more streamlined UI, significantly faster loading times, and a smoother engine overall. They’re also shaking up character development by adding ability trees to the classic linear progression, which should give theory-crafters plenty of room to breathe. It’s shaping up to be a more polished, responsive experience while keeping that old-school isometric soul intact.
Of course, a project this ambitious needs a bit of a boost to cross the finish line. GrapeOcean has just launched the pre-campaign phase to get the word out and gather feedback from the community. If you want to see this vision of Yerengal come to life—and maybe help shape how it gets there—you can check out the details and follow the project’s progress over on their official page.
Greetings, adventurers,
With your incredible support, we’ve been able to develop Black Geyser and its expansion, Tales of the Moon Cult. Thank you for being with us! Today, we would like to announce our next party-based, real-time with pause RPG, Avaria: Iron Rule. Its plot takes place 25 years before the events of Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness. While it shares the same rich universe, it features a mostly standalone story under the early rule of King Velianrick. The plot revolves around the gritty themes of colonialism and the heavy weight of moral choices.
To be able to finish its development, we need a successful Kickstarter campaign—if you’re interested, please help us by filling out this tiny survey, and subscribe on the pre-launch page of Avaria: Iron Rule.
