The team behind the stylish isometric shooter The Ascent, Neon Giant, has officially unveiled their next ambitious project: No Law. Revealed at The Game Awards 2025, this new title represents a significant shift in perspective, placing players directly into a gritty, dense cyber-noir world as a first-person open-world shooter RPG.
While The Ascent was lauded for its vibrant cyberpunk setting and satisfying top-down combat, No Law throws players into the first-person view, promising a more intimate, brutal, and immersive experience. The developers have emphasized a focus on visceral gun feel, impact, and combat flow, while retaining their signature strength: urban density and stunning visual variety.
Players step into the boots of Grey Harker, an ex-military veteran who sought to leave his black-ops past behind for a quieter, more peaceful life. This attempt at peace is violently shattered when “trouble finds its way to his front door,” forcing him to rely on his combat instincts and custom hardware to reclaim what was taken from him.
The adventure unfolds in Port Desire, a decadent, industrial cybergrunge city nestled against a cliff overlooking the sea. The city is a hub of import, export, and neon sleaze, built not on regulation but on the volatile desires of its populace. It’s a vertical playground, stretching from smog-choked alleys to rooftop walkways, where moral boundaries are non-existent.
The core philosophy of No Law revolves around player agency and consequence, echoing elements of an immersive sim. Neon Giant assures players that there is no “wrong” way to play, as the game’s world and narrative are designed to subtly react to your actions.
Every decision—from helping an ally to silencing an enemy permanently—is designed to leave a mark. The game features multiple endings, encouraging multiple playthroughs to uncover alternate paths, allies, and outcomes.
Players can utilize Grey Harker’s tactical background to stick to the shadows, master stealth, and use sci-fi devices to outsmart enemies. Alternatively, you can give in to unbridled rage and go in guns blazing for full-frontal chaos.
The game will feature skill trees and experience points, allowing you to specialize in areas like hacking, lockpicking, or certain weapon types, ensuring your playstyle is uniquely your own.
No Law promises to be a story-rich, cyber-noir shooter that evolves the developer’s vision into a raw, brutal, and satisfying first-person action experience, where the lack of law simply means your actions have a more profound, personal consequence.
