The creators of the global phenomenon Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios, have officially unveiled their next major project at The Game Awards 2025: Divinity. In a powerful and dark cinematic trailer, Larian confirmed their return to their beloved original fantasy universe, Rivellon, promising a new chapter that will surpass all their previous efforts.
Larian founder and CEO Swen Vincke stated that this new title is simply named Divinity (making it the first in the series to hold that simple title) and is set to be “the beginning of something with greater scope, more depth, and more intimacy than anything we’ve ever made.”
Host Geoff Keighley further fueled the hype by describing the project as Larian’s “biggest game ever, even larger than Baldur’s Gate 3.” Though Larian had previously confirmed they were not working on Divinity: Original Sin 3, this new, ambitious project is widely expected to build upon the critically acclaimed tactical, turn-based CRPG foundation established by the Original Sin titles.
The announcement trailer itself struck a surprisingly dark and disturbing tone, a stark contrast to the occasional levity of Larian’s past work. It showed a ritualistic burning within a bizarre effigy—which fans recognized as the mysterious Mojave Desert statue that had been teasing the announcement for weeks. The trailer concluded with the gruesome transformation of the effigy into a mass of limbs and darkness, hinting at new, horrifying powers stirring in Rivellon.
No official release date was given, as the game is still early in development, but it is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Larian confirmed the game is a standalone experience that does not require prior knowledge of the older Divinity titles. You can check out the trailer here (Viewer discretion is advised, mature audiences only!)
