You are the Hunter, and They are your Prey: Deathwish is Finally Official

It’s been a wild ride for World of Darkness fans over the last few weeks, but the cat is officially out of the bag. After a hilarious mishap where a playable build was accidentally leaked via a RoboCop: Rogue City update, Teyon and Nacon finally pulled back the curtain at the 2026 Xbox Partner Showcase to announce Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish. If you’ve been dying for a game that lets you step into the boots of a regular human trying to survive a city crawling with vampires and werewolves, this looks like the gritty, first-person RPG we’ve been waiting for.

From RoboCop to Monster Hunting

Teyon is fresh off the success of RoboCop: Rogue City, and it looks like they’re taking that DNA and evolving it into something much deeper. Set in a dark, rain-soaked version of modern-day New York City, Deathwish isn’t just about shooting monsters until they explode. The devs are leaning heavily into the “investigative” side of the Hunter 5th edition tabletop rules. You’ll be exploring the city, tracking down supernatural prey, and managing a “cell” of fellow hunters. There’s even word of romance options and companion bonding, which gives off some serious Supernatural or early Bloodlines vibes.

A Nod to the Classics

For those of us old enough to remember the original Xbox and GameCube era, the Hunter: The Reckoning name carries a lot of weight. Back in the early 2000s, High Voltage Software gave us a trilogy of absolute bangers—the original Hunter: The Reckoning, followed by Wayward and Redeemer. Those games were classic top-down, couch co-op hack-and-slashers that focused on “The Imbued,” humans granted divine-ish powers to go Rambo on the undead. While Deathwish is moving in a more grounded, first-person RPG direction, it’s clearly built with that same spirit of “standing between the innocent and the things that go bump in the night.”

When Can We Play It?

The reveal trailer was moody and cinematic, but we’re going to have to be a little patient before we can actually start our hunt. Teyon has given us a tentative release window of Summer 2027. It’s a bit of a wait, but considering the scale of the New York map they’re promising and the branching story paths, it sounds like they’re taking the time to polish this into a proper AAA World of Darkness experience.

If you want to make sure you don’t miss a single update on the shadows lurking in NYC, you can head over to Steam right now to add it to your wishlist.
