Lords of the End Times DLC and Free Neferata Update Coming to Total War Warhammer 3

Lords of the End Times DLC and Free Neferata Update Coming to Total War Warhammer 3

The End Times are finally here for Total War: Warhammer 3, and Creative Assembly is not messing around. On September 24, 2026, the Lords of the End Times DLC drops as the single largest piece of content the series has ever seen in its ten-year run. Four brand-new Legendary Lords storm into the massive Immortal Empires campaign, bringing piles of new units, heroes, mechanics, and pure apocalyptic vibes. And just to keep everyone happy, a huge free update lands at the same time, headlined by none other than the Vampire Queen Neferata. If you’ve been waiting for the world to properly burn, your moment has arrived.

Let’s talk about the paid side first, because this DLC is stacked. The four new Legendary Lords each bring their own distinct flavor of destruction. First up is Nagash, the Supreme Lord of the Undead. The original necromancer is back and hungrier than ever. His whole deal is draining the life out of the map, raising endless armies of the dead, and climbing toward godhood. Expect necropolises that suck the vitality from surrounding provinces and a Black Pyramid that gets juicier upgrades the more death you sow. He’s pulling from both Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings vibes while doing his own terrifying thing. If you like turning the entire continent into a bone-covered wasteland, Nagash is your guy.

Then there’s Boris Todbringer, the Elector Count of Middenland. While everyone else is trying to end the world, Boris is out here trying to save what’s left of the Empire by rekindling the Flame of Ulric. He’s the grizzled defender, the guy who looks at the incoming apocalypse and just growls “not on my watch.” Expect a campaign focused on holding the line, rallying the faithful, and punching Chaos in the face with pure Ulrican fury. It’s a refreshing change of pace when half the map is busy summoning daemons or raising the dead.

The Glottkin bring the Nurgle energy, and it’s as gross as you’d hope. These three brothers are all about spreading Gardens of Corruption and turning the land into a rotting, disease-ridden paradise. Putrid Blight Kings and other fly-infested horrors join the party. If your idea of fun is watching enemy armies melt while your forces get stronger from the plague, the Glottkin have you covered.

And of course we have Thanquol, the scheming Grey Seer, riding into battle on his faithful Rat Ogre bodyguard Boneripper. Thanquol’s big mechanic is Masterplans. He can raise secret armies, pull off dark rituals, stage heists, and generally make life miserable for everyone else from the shadows. Skreech Verminking shows up as a Legendary Hero, and the usual Skaven nonsense gets cranked up to eleven. Yes-yes, the under-empire is about to get a lot more active.

Across the whole DLC you’re looking at four Legendary Lords, eight Legendary Heroes, five additional Lords and Heroes, twenty-three new battle units, twelve Regiments of Renown, and a bunch of fresh gameplay mechanics and objectives. Units like the Khemric Titan, Verminlords, Putrid Blight Kings, and the Celestial Hurricanum are joining the fray. It’s a serious amount of content, and Creative Assembly is letting you buy the lords individually for around $8.99 each or grab the whole bundle for a discounted $30.56. Smart move.

Here’s the real game-changer though. For the first time in the series, buying any of the Lords of the End Times content, even just one lord, unlocks the full Immortal Empires campaign. You don’t need to own Total War: Warhammer 3 or any of the previous games. New players can jump straight into the giant map with a single DLC purchase. That’s a huge barrier removed, and it makes this an excellent entry point if you’ve been on the fence.

Now for the free stuff, because Creative Assembly didn’t stop at the paid DLC. Dropping alongside the expansion is one of the biggest free updates the game has ever received, and the star of the show is Neferata, the Vampire Queen. The first vampire, the Queen of Mysteries, the original Lahmian, is finally playable as a free Legendary Lord. She’s arriving with a full rework of the Vampire Counts faction. The bloodsuckers have been overdue for some love, and this update aims to revitalize their core systems. Raise Dead is getting changes so that the corpses left behind after battles become proper recruitment opportunities, and vampires themselves are getting stronger but harder to come by. Expect the dark lords of Sylvania to feel fresh again.

Archaon the Everchosen is also getting a major rework. The guy who basically ends the world in the lore is receiving updated campaign mechanics and a visual refresh so he can properly lead the Chaos charge. On top of that, three new End Game Scenarios are arriving: Chaos Invasion, Vermintide, and Nagash Rises. These replace the old endgame crises that mostly just spawned extra armies. The new ones are designed to feel more like the actual End Times, with the map shifting, volcanoes erupting, warp meteors falling, and bottomless chasms opening up. Some of these events are tied to the lore, others can be used as super weapons by certain factions. Victory conditions for every existing Legendary Lord are also being updated, so campaigns should feel more purposeful no matter who you’re playing.

The whole package is dripping with that classic Warhammer apocalypse energy. The End Times were the event that literally destroyed the Old World in the tabletop lore, and Creative Assembly is giving players the tools to either recreate that catastrophe or desperately try to stop it. You can play as the forces of destruction and watch the world burn, or dig in with the likes of Boris and try to hold the line. Either way, the sandbox just got a lot more dramatic.

What makes this release special is how it balances the big paid content with meaningful free updates. Getting Neferata and a full Vampire Counts rework for free is a massive win for undead fans. Pair that with the accessibility change for Immortal Empires and you’ve got something that feels generous while still delivering the scale fans expect from a flagship DLC.

Whether you’ve been deep in the trenches of Total War: Warhammer 3 for years or you’re just now considering diving into the chaos, September 24 is circled on the calendar. The Lords of the End Times are coming, Neferata is rising, and the world of the Old World is about to get a whole lot messier. Will you defend it, or will you help tear it apart? The choice, as always, is yours. Just remember to bring plenty of blood and warpstone. You’re going to need both.
