Just when everyone thought it was dead and buried in the graveyard of cancelled video games, Geoff Keighley pulled off the ultimate magic trick. Telltale Games took the stage at Summer Game Fest to prove that the most requested sequel in episodic gaming history is alive, well, and finally heading to our screens. We officially have a brand-new trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2, marking the first major footage update we have seen in roughly four years. The long-awaited continuation of the neo-noir detective thriller is officially targeting a launch window in 2027.
If you have been keeping up with the industry gossip, you know the road to this announcement has been an absolute nightmare. The project has survived studio closures, complete development restarts, an engine shift to Unreal Engine 5, and a messy split from former co-developers AdHoc Studio. This time around, Telltale has teamed up with PM Studios to act as a co-publisher, alongside Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC’s Vertigo imprint. Even better, they announced that The Wolf Among Us Remastered is launching this Holiday 2026 season to give fans a visual refresh of the 2013 classic before the sequel officially hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Smoke, Mirrors, and a New Criminal Underworld
Set shortly after the events of the original episodic series, The Wolf Among Us 2 drops us right back into the gritty, rain-soaked, neon-lit version of 1980s New York City. For the uninitiated, the series takes place in a hidden community known as Fabletown, where fairytale and folklore characters live disguised among regular humans. The newly revealed story trailer establishes that the fragile peace holding this community together is rapidly disintegrating. A brutal, mysterious series of high-profile crimes has shaken Fabletown to its absolute core, threatening to expose their secrets to the human world.
Our favorite grumpy, chain-smoking sheriff Bigby Wolf is right back on the case, but the dynamic has completely changed. While Bigby is busy investigating a dangerous conspiracy that stretches deep into the city’s corrupt criminal underworld, Snow White is struggling to maintain political order above ground. Long-simmering power struggles are threatening to erupt between the Fabletown leadership and the regular citizens who feel completely abandoned. The trailer teases a heavy narrative focus on Bigby’s internal struggle, forcing players to decide what kind of protector he wants to become when the entire world is actively working against him.

Rebuilding the Magic on Next-Gen Tech
While the trailer retained that iconic, cel-shaded comic book aesthetic that made the original 2013 game a masterpiece, the shift to modern hardware is incredibly obvious. The environments look remarkably detailed, with gorgeous lighting effects highlighting the gritty atmosphere of dark alleyways, smoke-filled dive bars, and snowy New York streets. The character models look sharper and more expressive, which is a massive upgrade for a game that relies entirely on emotional nuance, high-stakes dialogue choices, and intense player interrogation scenes.
The gameplay itself will stick to Telltale’s signature choice-based narrative structure, but the developers are promising a much more fluid mechanical experience. Quick-time event action sequences look punchier, and the investigative detective mechanics are getting a complete overhaul to make you feel like a gritty noir detective tracking down clues. With the original voice cast returning to bring these beloved characters to life, the decades-long wait is shaping up to be entirely worth it for the patient community.

A Two-Part Fairytale Revival
The announcement of the remaster arriving later this year is the perfect strategic move to tide everyone over during the final stretch of development. Telltale confirmed that the holiday package will feature completely rebuilt visuals, optimized user interfaces, and an hour of bonus content featuring behind-the-scenes interviews and deleted scenes. It gives newcomers a perfect jumping-off point and allows veteran players to refresh their memories on all the massive narrative choices they made over a decade ago.

Telltale has weathered bankruptcy, corporate restructuring, and countless delays, but the passion behind this project has never wavered. Seeing Bigby Wolf step out from the shadows once again proves that great stories never truly die. The road to 2027 is going to require a little more patience, but Fabletown is officially open for business once again, and the mystery is going to be magnificent.
