Massive BG3 Mod Restores over 1000 Lines of Dialogue from Early Access

A dedicated modder in the Baldur’s Gate 3 community has released a massive restoration project that revives over 1,000 lines of voiced dialogue and more than 100 conversations originally cut from the game’s Early Access period.

The mod, titled “Early Access Scenes Restored,” was created by Nexus Mods user HyperspaceTowel. It aims to bridge the gap between the game’s three-year development period and its final 2023 release by reintegrating content that was left on the cutting room floor.

What’s Included in the Mod?

The restoration focuses primarily on Act 1, where the bulk of Early Access content lived. Key features include:

  • Companion Reactivity: Hundreds of new lines where companions react to your actions. For example, the mod restores dialogue for every party member when “grave robbing” the Dank Crypt and more explicit reactions to the infamous “barn door” scene.
  • Restored NPCs: Characters who vanished in the final release are back, such as Lotan, a tiefling child collecting shells, and Nerela, a music box seller.
  • The “Nautiloid Thralls”: The modder has future plans to fully restore the brainwashed thralls on the starting ship who could be spoken to in Early Access, adding more atmosphere to the prologue.
  • Specific Character Beats: Restores unique moments like Gale discussing his “deer stew” recipe and flirting between Gale, Wyll, and Shadowheart.

Lore-Friendly and Seamless

One of the most impressive feats of the mod is its commitment to consistency. HyperspaceTowel has explicitly stated that they only included content that fits into the full release story.

Because characters like Wyll and Karlach underwent massive rewrites and recasting (Wyll’s original voice actor and story were entirely replaced), their Early Access-specific scenes were largely omitted to avoid lore contradictions. However, the modder has managed to “splice” existing audio files to create new, lore-appropriate reactivity for these characters where possible.

All “new” dialogue is either pulled directly from old Early Access files still buried in the game’s code or painstakingly spliced from existing lines of the current voice actors to create new sentences. This ensures the voice acting remains high-quality and authentic to the original performances.

How to Play It

  • Platform: Currently available for the PC version of the game via Nexus Mods
  • Requirements: While it can be installed on existing saves, the modder strongly recommends starting a new playthrough to ensure all NPC triggers and early-game conversations activate correctly.
  • Future Updates: The project is ongoing. Future updates are expected to add more “Tav” (player character) voiced lines and further reactivity for Wyll and Karlach.

For fans who spent hundreds of hours in Early Access and missed the “weirdness” of the early builds, or for new players who simply want the most “talkative” version of the party possible, this mod is becoming a must have for the ultimate Baldur’s Gate 3 experience.
