If you tuned into the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, you already know it was packed with heavy hitters. But one game that completely stole the spotlight with its gorgeous, ash-choked aesthetic and gritty attitude was Clockwork Revolution. The brilliant minds over at inXile Entertainment dropped a brand-new trailer titled “The Heist”, giving us our deepest look yet at what this time-bending, first-person RPG is actually going to feel like.
First things first, let’s address the massive elephant in the room: platform availability. Xbox head honchos made it crystal clear that Clockwork Revolution is an Xbox console exclusive. That means it will be launching for Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store), and Cloud. If you were holding out hope for a PS5 version, it is time to lay those dreams to rest. Microsoft is heavily leaning back into its ecosystem exclusivity strategy for this IP, though the silver lining is that it will land on Xbox Game Pass on day one, alongside Xbox Play Anywhere support.

As for when we actually get to pull the levers on this adventure, the showcase locked in a 2027 release window. While it means we still have a bit of a wait ahead of us, the sheer depth of the mechanics shown makes it look well worth the patience.
The heart of the game revolves around the gorgeous but dystopian steampunk metropolis of Avalon. You play as Morgan Vanette, a fully customizable protagonist who belongs to a gritty faction known as the Rotten Row Hooligans. Avalon is a Victorian-era city where the wealthy citizens parade around with ornate clockwork prosthetics, flying steam trains roam the skies, and automaton robots police the lower classes.
The main narrative hook pits you against Lady Ironwood, a ruthless ruler who has secretly been using time travel for decades to rewrite history, keep the working class firmly under her boot, and amass unlimited power.

The gameplay looks like a chaotic, brilliant mix of high-stakes shooting, gadget crafting, and tactical hacking, but the real star of the show is your Chronometer. This device lets you travel 25 years into the past to alter pivotal historical moments, causing massive butterfly effects that reshape the layout of Avalon, change storefronts, and alter the lives of its citizens when you return to the present.
The trailer also highlighted a standout time-manipulation skill called Displace, an ability that lets you instantly shift specific objects in real-time. We saw it used to creatively solve puzzles, clear blocked pathways, and even launch an explosive barrel straight into a group of Lady Ironwood’s Industrial Secret Service agents. You will also be joined early on by a flying automaton companion named Prentice, who acts as a witty observer to your reality-splintering shenanigans.

With its darkly funny writing, intense class-warfare themes, and a world that dynamically remembers every historical thread you pull, Clockwork Revolution is shaping up to be a true heavyweight for 2027. Just make sure you have an Xbox or a solid gaming rig ready to go when the clock runs out.
