If you spent any time wandering the irradiated Soviet wilderness in the original ATOM RPG or its follow-up, Trudograd, you know that AtomTeam craft brutal, hilarious, and deeply nostalgic love letters to the golden age of CRPGs and especially the classic Fallout games. Well, grab your gas mask and a bottle of questionable vodka, because the squad is back. ATOM RPG 2 has officially landed on Kickstarter, and it looks like the ambitious sequel we’ve been waiting for since the bombs first dropped in their alternate-history 1986.
Welcome to the Caspian Wastes
This time around, we’re ditching the snowy streets of the North for the sun-scorched, sand-blasted Caspian Wastes. The setting centers on the ruins of the First City of the Future, a place where pre-war scientists tried to engineer a perfect society before everything went sideways. It’s a massive, open-world playground filled with mutants, desperate survivors, and cyborgs that are definitely not interested in making friends. The shift in scenery isn’t just cosmetic either, as the world feels more alive and reactive than ever, with your choices actually rippling through the various settlements and factions you’ll encounter.
New Ways to Fight and Explore
One of the biggest upgrades this time is the introduction of verticality. Unlike the flatter maps of the previous entries, ATOM RPG 2 features multi-level environments that allow for climbing and tactical positioning. The tactical turn-based combat has been overhauled to include cover mechanics and visceral combat finishers, making every scrap in the wasteland feel impactful. If you’re tired of walking, you’ll be happy to hear about the deep vehicle customization system. You can build, mod, and even fight from your own post-apocalyptic ride, which adds a whole new layer to traversing the dangerous Caspian sands.
More Than Just a Solo Survival Trip
For those who don’t want to face the end of the world alone, the team is introducing an optional co-op mode for up to four players. Imagine trekking through the wastes with three of your best friends, arguing over who gets the last scrap of canned meat while fighting off a raid. Beyond the combat, the game is leaning into Immersive Sim elements, offering activities like fishing, racing, and a robust base-building system. You are actively trying to rebuild a piece of the world this time, whether that means being a wasteland hero or a self-serving warlord.
Support the Cause
The Kickstarter campaign is currently live and already gathering some serious momentum. AtomTeam has a solid track record of delivering on their promises, and they’ve laid out a roadmap that targets an Early Access launch in December 2026. If you want to secure your copy, grab some exclusive backer rewards like a 3D portrait of yourself in-game, or just help ensure the game hits those juicy stretch goals for even more content, now is the time to jump in.
